More To The Story... The Art of Being MooseMan!

Picture

I met Rick the first time many years ago as he brought this portfolio of photographs in to Artisan's to share with me... let's say sometime around the turn of the century. We hit it off immediately with our shared love of nature and Rick's extraordinary talent for photography. Would we consider carrying his photography, focused on moose, at Artisan's, Rick wondered? How could we NOT, I responded enthusiastically. The clear happiness Rick shared about the subjects of his photography was catching... Rick had a story for every photograph. A name for every moose that he knew from year to year. They were not simply the subjects of his photography... they were characters in the larger story of the life so many of us know so little about.

Rick shared how he would return year after year to remote areas and search for the "old friends" he would photograph. He named each one, recognizing them from their distinct appearance, color, physique and behaviors.

At Artisan's, we have been honored to be part of Rick's amazing adventure. Every time we speak with or cross paths with him, there are stories that bring his wildlife, once beginning with moose and expanding far beyond that, to us in ways that we are moved by.

Some time ago, Rick and his partner Libby met one another on a local NH pond, each one there to photograph loons in the early morning hours. Their partnership in photography and in life is one for the times; and we are all better for them both.

Beyond the Frame

A Conversation With Rick

Someone I Feel The Most Proud Of...

Dean Pariseau, best friend (after Libby), I inspired him to pursue his art....he's done that. But this man has been there for me thru it all. Long story but this man is the real deal. I'm proud of anyone celebrating sobriety in life including myself.

Favorite Television Show or Character...

Ozark.....Wendy...coming from a cop family...I'm into crime shows, I watch stuff that is the absolute furthest away from who and what I am.....especially true documentary stuff.

Living Person (Non-Family) I Most Admire...

Dr Leonard Lee Rue III wildlife photographer

Favorite Athlete...

Tom Brady

The Best Trait I Got From My Dad Is...

My Dad...an amazing man, taught me compassion, gratitude, and he showed me how to love.

My Top 3 Favorite Shows Are...

Ozark, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad

Favorite Childhood Memory...

The first thing I remember in my life is my father wheeling a wheelbarrow with a new born calf in it, coming over the top of a knoll in the pasture.

My Favorite Place...

Until recently, it had always been the Woods of Maine. Alaska has crept into my heart, my soul.....Not a single day goes by when I don't go there in my mind. My top three places..... #1 Remote woods anywhere #2 Alaska moose country #3 local loon pond.

My Favorite Scent...

Balsam

My Favorite Sound...

It's a tie between a loon call and a  moose grunt.

I Am Most Proud of...

Being grateful, having good priorities and keeping them in order. Recognizing friends and telling them how I feel about them. Being a good man for Libby
I love how sensitive and emotional I am. I'm proud to have found my sobriety and identifying my true passions and living them.
