The Art of Being Erica Walker
I kept hearing this name, all these years ago...
Beyond the FrameA Conversation With EricaSomeone I Feel The Most Proud Of...I'm so proud of my friend Monica Rico and the work that she's doing, it brings me to tears. The moment it became apparent that families/individuals were struggling with food insecurity because of quarantine and job loss, she kicked in to gear organizing #MealsForHenniker. She has organized monetary and food donations, pick up and food delivery. To date, they have provided (tens of?) thousands of meals. Also restaurants like the Local and Appleseed for providing meals. These are the businesses I will continue to support in the future.
Favorite Teacher...When i think back, all of my favorite teachers were free spirits who fostered and celebrated individuality. Two standouts: Ms. Alex, 5th grade. I knew she was different, but i didn't know or care why. I loved that she had hairy legs and armpits and smelled of what I now know was patchouli. I always felt like she saw each of her students for who they were. And my high school art teacher. He always provided a safe space to express any creativity or talent. And he let me smoke in his office (Can you imagine?!?!).
My Favorite Thing About One of My Grandparents....I only ever knew my mom's mother. She wasn't a warm, doting grandmother, but when she visited, she would sit every evening in her favorite chair with her scotch and if i sat on the floor in front of her, she would brush my hair.
My Favorite Holiday...I love Christmas because it brings my family together.
My Favorite Sent...Good coffee beans, rosemary plant and kittens
Favorite Time of the Day...Early Morning

More To the Story"Growing up in a home where there was always some sort of project going and our creative interests and endeavors were fostered, I developed a strong love and appreciation for handcrafted art.
My father was an incredibly talented silver/gold smith by hobby and I remember spending hours on end watching him work and playing at his bench. So, when my sister Kiki Huston (Kiki Huston Jewelry Design) inherited his tools and began "smithing" I was inspired and encouraged to give it a try. simple organic contemporary
Having experimented with many different mediums over the years, I felt almost instantly at home with silver.
Most of my pieces have a simple, clean, organic feel. My work isn't "flawless" and I'm partial to silver that has the feel of the artist's hand. I also believe that most pieces get better with the patina of time and wear. I get most of my inspiration from nature where I spend much of my free time. Each piece you find in my my shop is handcrafted by me from start to finish using reclaimed and recycled sterling silver when possible. Thank you for your interest in my work and thank you for supporting handmade!" -Erica Walker My Celebrity Crush is...Steve Carell
My Favorite Toy Growing Up...My trucks, blocks, sandbox and woods
Three Words My Friends Would Use To Describe Me...If they were being kind- creative, kind and grounded. I
f they weren't feeling as generous- impatient, stubborn (though, i would argue that i have worked hard on that) and not a good housewife. The Qualities I am Most Drawn To In Others...Authenticity, uniqueness and kindness
