A Conversation With Bridget of B. Powers Designs
How did you come to your art?
When my children were young and my marriage was rocky, I attended a program at our local library to escape, having no idea what it was even about. It was called, Foam Is Where the Art Is. This is also the title of Annette Mitchell's book which describes her process using polystyrene meat trays for printing. I started making cards, then floorcloths, and I just keep trying new things and adding my own twist. Currently, I marble paper, make greeting cards, paint pour jewelry and now, I am teaching myself to enamel. Learning is fun for me!
Favorite Teacher |
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being most strict)... |
My favorite teacher is Annette Mitchell, retired art professor from PSU. She is fun, amazingly creative and wildly encouraging. She has a nice way of fostering each student's individuality in art.
Which celebrity chef would you most like to fix you a meal?Alice Waters. I would love to pick her brain about community gardening and fostering a love of cooking in children. Also, not a chef, but Ruth Reichle, food critic. Her books are amazing! I love to cook and eat (and also make delicious cocktails).
The personality trait that has gotten me into the most trouble is...Perfectionism and my tendency to be my own harshest critic. This sometimes prevents me from taking risks and valuing myself and what I make.

My parents strictness decreased over time and 7 children, ending with a -2 for me, the youngest.
The Best Part of My Family...Our current relationship as adults. Whereas some of us barely knew each other growing up, now we have a Zoom cocktail party every Saturday night and I really like some of them! :-)
